Procedure for Moisture Content Testing

Sample Collection:

For a wood piece like 2" × 8" × 8' long: Take sample from the middle third of the board. Sample size: around 2 cm × 2 cm × 2 cm (20–50 grams).

Lab Oven Method:

• Weigh wet sample (W₁).
• Dry at 103–105°C for 24 hours until constant weight.
• Weigh dry sample (W₂) after cooling in desiccator.
• Formula: MC = [(W₁ - W₂) / W₂] × 100

Microwave Method:

• Weigh wet sample (W₁).
• Microwave in short intervals, weighing each time, until constant weight (W₂).
• Formula: MC = [(W₁ - W₂) / W₂] × 100

Important:

Always sample from the middle third of the wood piece to avoid skewed results. Sample size should be manageable for fast drying and accurate weighing.
